Artist Statement
“Prayers" is an installation that explores identity and the resilience needed to uphold it. In moments of self-reflection, we instinctively turn our look at the palms of our hands, and ask, "Who am I?" This work projects a colorful, flowing image onto the mold of my hands. It is meant to mimic the fluidity of water. You'll notice that in silence, the projection flows undisturbed, but external noise causes it to fluster and distort, representing how outside influences can shape our self-perception.
In the background of this visual is the audio of my mother's prayers over me in our native tongue (Yoruba). This prayer embodies the true voice on which my identity should be built. When her voice rises above the external noise, my sense of self regains clarity and focus.
Through "Prayers," I hope to authenticate the battle inside all of us against external forces that try to mis-shape our identities. highlighting the vital role of our roots in maintaining authenticity amidst life's disorienting currents.
The Process
Working in “Touchdesigner” I set out to
Make a visual of my soul and reflection of myself through the “Noise” node. While being visually appealing.
Make the Noise node connect to the sound of the prayers and also the sound of the sound of the outside world.

The sound
Working in Reaper, I set out to:
Make an audio that combines the prayer of my mother in Yoruba with a peaceful, somber background
